Iwona Polkowska works in the tradition of 20th Century abstract-expressionist painting. Her work is evocative but far from falling into the referential realm. The immediacy of gesture and the spontaneity of impulse are clearly visible. Her environment and experiences fuse together as a driving force and motivation to create and to express. Iwona’s immediacy to realize her artistic vision transcends all boundaries. She lets loose a stream of thoughts and feelings onto the blank canvas. Her eccentric technique of utilizing uncommon objects as painting tools evolves accordingly to give life to each shape, color or line. Despite her highly personal process the work is freely associative and open to interpretation. She creates with the knowledge that prior to the completion of each painting there is already someone in the world who will find a piece of themselves in one of her lively, evocative compositions. Iwona believes that through her work she connects to the outside world - this gives her work purpose.
